Most buyers start with price. But a Scissor Lift Platform only works if it fits the job. Three measurements decide that fit: working height, platform size, and aisle width. Measure these first. Then compare models. This guide shows you how.

Start with Working Height, Not Platform Height
Working height is not the same as platform height. Working height equals platform height plus a person’s reach. Most people add about 2 meters. So a platform at 8 meters gives a working height of about 10 meters.
Measure the highest point you need to touch. Add space for tools and your body. That number is your target working height. Do not order by platform height alone. You will come up short.
Also check the ceiling. Inside a warehouse, the platform must rise without hitting lights, pipes, or sprinklers. Measure the clear height above the work point. Make sure the machine can reach the job and still stop safely.

Platform Size: What Your Scissor Lift Platform Must Fit
Platform size is more than “how many people fit.” It controls tool space, turning room, and how close you can get to the work. Check three numbers: platform length, platform width, and folded outline size.
A longer platform helps when you work along a row of lights. A wider platform gives room for tool bags and spare parts. But bigger is not always better. In tight aisles, a smaller deck moves easier.
Some jobs need a Scissor Lift with Extendable Platform. The extension slides out to reach over an obstacle. Use it when the work point sits slightly beyond the base platform. Do not use it as a substitute for correct positioning.
Aisle Width and Turning: The Measurement Most Buyers Miss
Aisle width is not just the gap between racks. Measure the narrowest point on the whole route. That includes doorways, corners, charging areas, and parked equipment.
Write down four numbers:
- Minimum clear width between racks
- Door opening width and height
- Diagonal space at turns
- Space needed to enter and exit the platform
Compare these numbers to the machine’s folded outline. The folded width is the number that matters. If the machine folds to 1.19 m wide, the aisle must be wider than that. Leave extra room for the operator to step on and off. Leave room to pass tools.

Load Capacity and Power: Filters Before You Buy a Scissor Lift for Sale
Load capacity must cover people, tools, and spare parts. Do not use the full rated load for people alone. A 320 kg platform with two workers at 80 kg each leaves 160 kg for tools and parts. That is usually enough. But check your heaviest tool bag.
For indoor work, choose electric power. A Mobile Scissor Lift Platform produces no exhaust and runs quietly. It moves under its own power between work points. The hydraulic scissor lift platform design gives smooth lifting and controlled lowering. Check the floor rating too.Heavy scissors elevating platform can damage a finished floor. Confirm tire type and total weight before delivery.
How to Build a Shortlist for a Scissor Lift for Sale
Put your measurements on one page. List working height, platform size, aisle width, load, power, and floor condition. Then use a simple exclusion process.
First, remove any model that cannot enter the aisle. Second, remove any model that cannot reach the working height. Third, remove any model that cannot carry your load. What remains is your shortlist.
When you search for Electric Scissor Lifts for Sale, bring these numbers to the supplier. Ask for folded dimensions, turning radius, and total weight. A supplier who asks for your aisle width is more useful than one who only sends a price list.
Common Sizing Mistakes and a Quick Checklist
Watch for these mistakes:
- Using platform height as working height
- Measuring aisle width but not doorways or turns
- Ignoring folded guardrail height and ceiling clearance
- Counting people but not tools in the load
- Choosing the largest platform instead of the one that fits
Quick checklist before you buy:
- Highest work point measured
- Clear ceiling height checked
- Narrowest aisle measured
- Door width and height measured
- Turning space checked
- Load calculated with tools
- Power source confirmed
- Floor condition and weight checked

FAQ: Sizing Questions Before You Buy
How much higher is working height than platform height?
About 2 meters. Add this to the platform height to get working height.
Can a 1.2 m aisle fit a standard machine?
Only if the folded width is less than the aisle. Check the folded outline, not the platform width.
Does platform size affect stability?
Yes. A larger platform can shift the center of gravity. Always follow the load chart and position the machine on level ground.
